After concluding that the ideal man simply does not exist, Wilhelmina Morgan Callaghan, 43, tied a knot with her Irish charmer called Henry. Henry just happens to be the eight-year-old Yorkshire terrier.
Ms. Callaghan celebrates her eighth marriage to Cork-born Henry –who is blessed with a perky personality, large, dark eyes, and soft brown hair on November 20th. She calls him her “king,” and praises his unfailing loyalty, asserting that a man has never given her the same level of support or kindness.
“Things have fallen apart somewhat since we got married in 2009,” said Wilhelmina of Northern Ireland. “I lost my job at the morgue, so I had to become a freelancer embalmer, there is not much money in it, and then my house was flooded.
“But Henry has been great throughout – he's very loyal.” I call it “Ri” which means “king” in the ancient Gaelic because he is like the king – my king.
Wilhelmina says Henry has offered her unwavering support. Henry was adopted by Ms. Callaghan in 2009 from a friend who had a litter and was inspired to become his bride after knowing that people marry their pets online.
She says Henry is “wonderful” and loves to cuddles and watch TV. Henry, whose full name is Henry Frederick Stanley Morgan – and Mrs. Callaghan, became a dog and wife, through a website, with his friend Rebecca Carter, as a witness.
Although they have been given a certificate, since it is not legal to marry your pet, their union is a spiritual one, although she takes it very seriously.
A great admirer of Sealyham Terriers – an average size Welsh breed – Wilhelmina runs a Facebook page dedicated to them, under the pen name of Celia Ham. She as well has 10 other pups, together with Chihuahua dogs, Chinese-crested dogs, and Schnauzers, which she acquired from places as far-flung as Slovenia, the Ukraine, and Lincolnshire.
