The day after the night before following Hurricane Harvey tore into Texas, residents living on the Gulf Coast were already trying to move on after the damaging storm, like dog Otis, a resourceful Texas retriever.
A resident from Sinton, Tiele Dockens was checking out the damage at her home, Sinton is a small town north of Corpus Christi, when she saw the dog Otis on the road carrying a huge bag of dog food.
“After the storm this morning I went into town to examine damages on possessions,” Dockens told HuffPost on Saturday. “Lots of people were outside in their yards and streets cleaning up trees, debris, and branches.”
Dockens spotted this golden retriever mix that was in survival mode exactly like everybody else. She shared his picture with the hashtag #refugee. Later she found out the dog was named Otis.
Dockens' photo quickly went viral, with many saying the dog's resourcefulness was a Texan characteristic.
One commenter wrote: “this dog has to be a Texas dog cause he could survive without assistance,”
Dockens talked with Otis' owner later that afternoon and discovered that the dog made it home safely with the bag of food, though it's unclear where that bag came from.
