This great family did not leave their beloved rescue dogs behind when hurricane Harvey hit. Lisa First and her husband Jesse Cadena have numerous rescue dogs — 14 in the moment, even though there are often fostered, too — they refer to their residence as Camp Chaos.
“They are all Houston street dogs and every one of them has a story,” First informs The Dodo. “They are a really special bunch of misfits which are always welcoming foster dogs in their dwelling. We've got a good deal of fun daily.”
During normal times, there is a great deal of playing with tennis balls and moving out to the pond for swims. Only usually it is because swimming is exactly what they need to do — not because they have no other option.
Camp Chaos was also going in that direction, with water rising within the house.
We slept all together on the bed and sofas,” First states.
For around three days, the family was trapped, busy with maintaining themselves and their dogs safe, and attempting to preserve their most precious personal outcomes.
